Emergency Preparedness Planning for UCSD

Summary: Learn about UCSD's emergency preparedness planning efforts and how you can and should participate.

Anticipating and planning for emergency response minimizes possible injuries and property damage during a campuswide emergency, and eases resumption of normal business activity in the aftermath.

In addition to UCSD's Emergency Operations Plan, preparedness planning depends on the efforts of each department. Familiarize yourself with UCSD's emergency preparedness program and how you fit into it.

Campuswide planning

Planning on the departmental level

  • What Department Safety Coordinators Need to Know answers most questions regarding the role of the Department Safety Coordinator.
  • How to Develop a Department Emergency Action Plan provides basic procedures and resources for creating your group's Emergency Action Plan. Every department at UCSD needs to have its own facility-specific Emergency Action Plan.
  • Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT)
  • Emergency and Earthquake Preparedness Training options for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Emergency Supplies: Personal Checklist recommends supplies and equipment to help you ride out an emergency, both at work and at home.
  • Emergency Supplies available from Marketplace Preview.
  • "Academic Aftershocks" is a 46-minute film documenting the hours and days following the 1994 Northridge earthquake, and the effect on the Cal State Northridge campus. "It's Academic: Emergency Preparedness for Schools" is a 15-minute abbreviated version. Both films are available in DVD or VHS format.
    • To borrow a copy, contact the EH&S safety training manager. Sorry! Videos and DVDs are available only to University of California staff and students.
