Getting Rid of Roaches

Summary: Learn how to prevent and deal with roach infestations.

Roaches feed on all kinds of food, books, boxes, and plants.
  • Use these steps to prevent an infestation.
  • If you have an infestation, use the tips below to get rid of the roaches.

If roaches are indoors:

  1. Clean the area thoroughly.
    1. Dispose of exposed food. Clean up all crumbs and spills.
    2. Remove contents of drawers and cupboards.
    3. Thoroughly vacuum and clean infested area.
    4. Scrub dishes, drawers, and shelves with hot soapy water.
  2. Use a pesticide-free spray to discourage invasions. Marketplace Preview carries Victor Poison-Free (stock # 5041), the only spray recommended for use at UCSD.

If the problem persists, eliminate all food sources. The only way to stop recurring invasions is persistent and thorough cleaning.
