Department Index
General Memberships

Summary: UCSD employees can join organizations that promote the advancement of education and research, enhance professional standing, and facilitate community relations. Read the information below to learn more about general memberships.

General memberships require initiation fees or dues. These types of general memberships are allowable at UCSD:

  • University and collegiate organizations
  • Official accrediting agencies
  • Professional school and college organizations
  • Institutional service agency organizations
  • Administrative officers organizations
  • Scholarly societies
  • Community organizations

Approval: Department approval is required. The department approver must have a signature authorization on file with Disbursements.

Funding sources: When fund policy is more restrictive than UCSD policy, the fund policy prevails. Funding sources include:

  • State funds
  • Non-state funds
  • Federal funds: Membership expenditures must be allowed by fund guidelines.

Payment of or reimbursement for a general membership: See how to submit a request to Disbursements.

For more information on memberships, contact Stephanie Wallace, (858) 534-0837, or Tracey Bradley, (858) 534-8518.

Notice: UCSD membership policy is derived from UC Policy and Regulations. Published policy is decisive as it has been adapted to UCSD's organization, delegation of authority, terminology, and chart of accounts.
