Cashiering Services: Cash Control Training Information

Summary: If you handle cash for your department, the Central Cashier's Office is available to answer your questions and provide training. The Cash Handling Coordinator is also available for onsite visits.

Cash handling training is intended for employees who are handling, processing, and/or depositing cash.

Cash is defined as:

  • Checks
  • Currency
  • Coins
  • Credit card recordings
  • Bank notes
  • Bullion
  • Traveler's checks
  • Registered checks
  • Money orders
  • Cashier's checks

In the training you will learn about:

  • What is considered cash
  • Handling cash and the distinctive responsibilities
  • Critical BUS-49 policy activities
  • Segregation of duties, accountability, physical security, and reconciliation
  • Functions that should be segregated and why
  • Accountability and when it is present
  • Physical security issues and how to resolve them
  • Available resources to answer cashiering questions
  • Future plans to address cashiering issues

At the training, we will discuss and review the Specific Business and Finance Bulletin BUS-49, Cashiering Responsibilities and Guidelines (PDF). The training will emphasize those Critical Cash Control Procedures relating to segregation of duties, accountability, physical security, and reconciliation.

To register for a scheduled class, see Enrollment Central, or contact Staff Education, (858) 534-4890.
