EAMS (Equipment Asset Management System) Overview

Summary: Find out how you can more efficiently maintain your inventorial equipment by using EAMS, UCSD's Web-based inventory management system.

UCSD has two types of equipment:

  • Inventorial equipment has an acquisition cost of $5,000 or more and must be tracked as property through EAMS (Equipment Asset Management System) and through UCSD’s financial system.
  • Non-inventorial equipment has an acquisition cost of $1,500-$4,999 and must be tracked only through the financial system, not through EAMS.

For more information on inventorial equipment, see Equipment Management Basics.

What is EAMS? Property administrators use EAMS (Equipment Asset Management System) to electronically manage department inventorial equipment. If you are a property administrator, use EAMS on the Web to:

  • Make online changes to your inventorial equipment database
  • Electronically process Equipment Inventory Modification Requests (EIMRs) to record the transfer to Surplus Sales or disposal of equipment
  • Search for inventorial equipment by UCID number, serial number, building/ room number or an individual's name
  • Find out who owns a piece of inventorial equipment
  • Generate various reports as needed

What are the benefits of using EAMS on the Web?

  • Reduced paper processing
  • On-demand reports you can print yourself
  • Sorting and selection options for reports

Access to EAMS on the Web: If you are a designated property administrator or alternate, you can request access to EAMS on the Web by using the online registration feature.

Training: UCSD Staff Education offers an Equipment Asset Management System training class.
