Connecting to the UCSD Web Proxy Server

Summary: Learn about the UCSD Web proxy server to access campus resources using non-UCSD Internet service providers (ISPs).

If you use a non-UCSD ISP like Road Runner, AOL, or Cox, connecting to the Web proxy server gives you:

  • Access to restricted, UCSD Web-based services (like library e-journals)
  • Improved Web-browsing speed

Set up your Web browser

Web browser configuration differs depending on your computer's operating system, type of Web browser, and type of Internet connection. Connect to the UCSD Web proxy server using one of the options below:

For the following, ACT suggests:

  • AOL and PeoplePC: Use Netscape to configure your proxy settings. Internet Explorer doesn't always work.
  • Juno: Contact Juno's technical support to determine which setting(s) need to be changed to access UCSD-only resources.
  • T-Mobile: Use the Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access UCSD-only resources.

Automatic and Manual Proxy Configuration

  • Automatic: If you're familiar with these scripts, find the automatic proxy configuration script box in the settings of your Web browser and enter: http://webproxy.ucsd.edu/proxy.pl
  • Manual: If your browser doesn't support automatic configuration script, use these manual settings that identify the port:
    • Web Proxy Address: webproxy.ucsd.edu
    • Web Proxy Port: 3128
