The COI Office:
- Avoids conflicts of interest and ensures that the best interests of the public and university are served by reviewing disclosures of related financial interest between principal investigators (PIs) and non-governmental entities
- Oversees the filing of statements of economic interest forms by Designated Officials (DOs) every year and when they assume and/or leave office
- Provides expertise in policy and regulation interpretation to faculty, managers, and other staff
- Conducts collaborative reviews, by department request, of other issues involving faculty relations with industry outside the normal contract, grant, or gift process, as well as employee relations with private industry
The COI office also provides staff support to the Independent Review Committee (IRC) on Conflict of Interest.
- The IRC functions as the principal advisory group to the chancellor for the resolution of specific conflicts of interest in nongovernmental and federal research.
- The charge of the IRC is to review situations where an actual or potential conflict of interest exists because of a significant financial interest.
