Q: My connection is failing repeatedly.
A: Modifying the Group Authentication fields in your client will cause your connection to fail repeatedly. This information comes coupled with the downloaded VPN client and, if you change it, you must re-import the profiles to correct the problem. To import the desired profile, right-click on allthruucsd or split, and select Save Link As.

Q: I have an older NAT box, like a Graphite Airport, and I am having trouble connecting with the VPN client.
A: Make sure you have signed up for VPN service. Check the special NAT box instructions for
Windows and Mac OS X.

Q: I'm experiencing connection problems while using a firewall.
A: Try enabling port 10,000 (when using IPSec over TCP) in your firewall.

Q: I want to use my PDA with VPN to connect wirelessly to a shared drive or to the Exchange mail servers.

Q: My client tells me that "the necessary VPN subsystem is unavailable" in Windows XP or 2000.
A: Restart your computer since sometimes the VPN service is not started when you first install the client. If after restarting you get the same message, follow these steps:
- Go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.
- Look for Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Service. and double-click it.
- In the Startup type, select the pulldown box and set the service to Automatically.
- Click the Start button to start the service.
- Click Apply and OK. You shouldn't receive this message again.

Q: I have a Windows XP or 2000 machine that automounts server shares on login. How do I get the VPN client to load beforehand?
A: Follow these steps:
- Open the Cisco Systems VPN Client.
- Select the Options menu.
- Select the Windows Logon Properties.
- Select the box Enable start before logon. This will launch the Cisco client before Windows logs in.
- Click OK.
- Close the Cisco client window and restart the computer.
- Press CONTROL-ALT-DELETE when prompted. The VPN client will launch itself within 5 to 10 seconds.
- Select the Connection type in the new window and click Connect.
- Enter your UCSD network username and password.
- Click Continue to use either UCSD VPN Service with no split routing or UCSD Netops VPN w/Campus Only Routing.
