Wireless networking encrypted with Wi-Fi Protected Access-Enterprise (WPA-E) technology is available to faculty, staff, and students with campus Active Directory usernames and passwords.
The service is accessible on campus where you see "UCSD-PROTECTED" on your laptop's list of available wireless IDs. These areas currently include:
- International Relations/Pacific Studies
(IR/PS)
- The Price Center complex
- The Rady School
- The School of Engineering (certain areas only)
- The School of Medicine
Encrypted wireless connections make it more difficult for others to "listen in" on your wireless conversation. It does not mean that everything you type is completely encrypted, but it does offer a more secure wireless connection.
Find encrypted services: If you have a WPA-E compatible wireless card or phone, click the following links to find out how to check for encrypted services and configure your laptop or phone to use them:
If your computer doesn't have WPA-E, read this overview to learn about regular wireless services at UCSD.
