Alan Moore
Staff Research Associate
Department of Anesthesiology

Years of service at UCSD: 16

Alan Moore, a dedicated family man to his mother, sisters, nieces, nephews, and his soul mate Ken, died April 17, 2007, of a brain disease. He was 50.

According to those who knew him, Alan loved all things related to nature, including animals. He had a house full of pets, was an avid gardener and runner, and liked to read, cook, travel, and play board games.

Alan joined the Anesthesiology Analytical Laboratory at the Clinical Teaching Facility in Hillcrest in 1991. As the group's senior technician, he provided the primary support for countless studies and investigations carried out not only by departmental investigators but also by academic and industrial sponsors around the world.

"Alan’s strengths were his intelligence, problem solving abilities, and his ability to handle deadlines and emotional investigators with equanimity," said his colleagues. "At any one time, the samples and results of literally dozens of studies would be in process, requiring his organizational talents. His calm and measured response to these stresses was legendary."

In addition, "Alan was a person with many great human qualities: compassion, love, honesty, and a sense of humor. All of these aspects call forth an image for those who knew Alan as an individual who contributed so much to the lives of those within his work community and outside. He will be greatly missed."
