Center for Iberian Latin American Studies,
Internship - #IC08-54

This internship will be at 25-50% time beginning February 2008.
The Center Iberian Latin American Studies-CILAS is recruiting for an intern. This internship will be a unique opportunity for a staff member to get direct experience in addressing daily advising needs of undergraduates and graduates, the intern will assist with the successful administration of the graduate admissions cycle under the supervision and direction of the Latin American Studies Program Director. Specific deadlines are set for this process and adherence to these deadlines is vital. The grant competition also has set deadlines for which the intern must process payments to grant recipients, report expenditures to the federal government, and reconcile events through the travel office. It is very clear when these projects have been successful by simply meeting these deadlines.
Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for graduate and undergraduate advising, graduate admissions, graduate student grant competition
- Process travel reimbursements/advances
- Coordinate federal/state/private grant pre/post-administration
Skills and knowledge required:
- Experience working with graduate admissions and grant administration
- Must be able to multi-task with frequent interruptions from students
.
- Must be self-motivated, creative, and pay very close attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a variety of diverse personnel
Skills and knowledge that the intern can expect to gain:
- Extensive knowledge in student affairs
- Understanding the dynamics of an academic program and organizational research unit
- Opportunities to network across departments by being involved in student affairs leadership committees that are crucial to performing job duties
