The Triton Bikes program transforms abandoned bikes into a convenient, cost-effective campus transportation alternative. Initiated in February 2004, Triton Bikes:
- Encourages the use of alternative transportation
- Provides a reliable, inexpensive means of transportation to students, faculty, and staff
- Recycles usable bikes, keeping them out of the waste stream
- Promotes campus community
How Triton Bikes' "re-cycling" program works: Performance Bike Shop inspects and repairs abandoned bikes obtained from the Campus Police. The refurbished bikes emerge bright yellow, sporting a Triton Bikes logo decal and equipped with wire baskets and locks. (Helmets are available upon request.) Bikes and bike racks — if needed — are delivered to participating departments and campus organizations.
Participate in Triton Bikes: As a participating department or campus organization, you take custody of the refurbished bikes, store and maintain them, and issue them to users for free. You must ensure that users meet requirements and complete the Triton Bikes Agreement, relieving the department and the University of all liability associated with bike use. Current participants include:
- Environment, Health & Safety
- Facilities Design & Construction
- Facilities Management
- Housing & Dining Services
- Revelle College
- Rideshare Operations
- RIMAC
- Salk Institute
- Sixth College
- Student Safety Awareness
- Theater & Music
