The UCSD Staff Association Scholarship Program awards up to $350 each to eligible UCSD Staff Association members for completed training activities that aid in their career development. This year, a minimum of 10 scholarships will be funded to help staff develop skills for their current job, for advancement opportunities, or for career change within the UC system.
The current UCSD Staff Association Scholarship Application (Word file) submission deadline is Monday, June 2, 2008.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be UCSD career employees who have completed their probationary period.
- Applicants must be current members (Word file) in the UCSD Staff Association as of May 31 of the current year, and at the time of application and award of scholarships.
Application requirements:
- Submit the application before the deadline. Late applications will not be accepted.
- To be considered, applications must be complete and include the required documentation.
- Training activities (courses, seminars, or conferences) must have been successfully completed between June 1 of the previous year and May 31 of the current year.
- Proof of completion (grade report, transcript, certificate) with a passing grade must accompany applications for courses or seminars.
- Original receipts for all eligible expenses must be submitted along with the application.
- Applicants are required to utilize UCSD employee discounts for UC and Extension courses.
- The following expenses are not eligible for scholarship funding:
- Travel or other incidental expenses such as food, parking, lodging
- Courses required to maintain a current license or board certification
Award procedure:
- The Scholarship Program Subcommittee shall consist of the UCSD Staff Association chair, vice chair, and a subcommittee chair appointed annually by the Staff Association chair.
- Applications must be returned to the subcommittee chair by the June deadline.
- The Scholarship Program Subcommittee will review applications to verify eligibility.
- Qualified applications will be presented to the UCSD Staff Association Executive Board for approval.
- Award dollar amounts depend on the number of eligible applications received.
- If the number of eligible applications exceeds the funding available, award selection will be based on a lottery process.
- Awards will be announced by the UCSD Staff Association chair and given at the staff picnic in August.
