Research Safety Authorizations for Principal Investigators

Summary: Principal investigators (PIs), learn how to apply for required research authorizations before beginning work with regulated materials or human or animal subjects.

Authorization must be obtained before principal investigators begin research at UCSD with biohazardous or radioactive materials, controlled substances, lasers, human gene transfer clinical trials, human subjects, or animal subjects.

Allow for processing time. Apply well in advance of establishing your lab. Approvals take an average of 1 to 2 months.
