Family and Medical Leave  
 
Summary: Learn about Family and Medical Leave, and link to documents and forms used to set up and manage leave for UCSD employees.

Under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), eligible UC employees may be able to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for:

  • Incapacity due to:
    • Pregnancy, prenatal medical care, or childbirth
    • A serious health condition
    • The serious health condition of a son or daughter, spouse, domestic partner (same-sex or opposite-sex), or parent
  • Bonding with a newborn, adopted or foster-care child in accordance with state and federal law in effect at the time of the leave

FMLA also provides Military Family Leave to eligible employees with a spouse, son or daughter, or parent on active duty or called to active duty.
