Safety Training for Office and Administrative Employees

Summary: Find out how to access required and recommended safety training for UCSD's office and administrative employees.

Nearly half of all campus accidents occur in office settings. Safety training can help you make your workplace a safe place.

Individual supervisors must identify job-specific hazards and make sure their employees attend safety training appropriate to the type of work they perform.

Read about required and recommended safety training below:

Required training
Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) Required for all employees receiving compensation from UCSD. You need to attend only once in your career.
  • Register for IIPP via Enrollment Central.
Ergonomic Training Required for employees covered by the Coalition of Unversity Employees (CUE) contract who work more than 60% of their time at a video display terminal.

Recommended for employees who work more than four hours per day at a video display terminal.

Recommended training
Risk Management Recommended for those interested in managing costs associated with work-related injuries or general liability insurance for UC-owned and operated facilities and equipment. Attend the following courses:

Dealing with Emergencies at UCSD Recommended for all employees who wish to learn about basic preparedness procedures and resources, or their department's role in UCSD's Emergency Operations Plan.
Fire Extinguisher Training Recommended for employees who work with hazardous materials, equipment, or processes associated with a high risk of fire.
  • Register for Fire Extinguisher Training on Enrollment Central.
  • View the "Using Portable Fire Extinguishers" video if you work in an environment with a low risk of fire.
    • Contact the EH&S safety training manager, (858) 822-5974, to arrange training or borrow the video.
  • Read How to Use a Fire Extinguisher for more information.

If you have questions about required and recommended safety training for the kind of work you perform at UCSD, contact the EH&S safety training manager, (858) 822-5974. If Environment, Health & Safety doesn't offer the training you need, other resources will be recommended.
