How to Use Preferential Rehire Status (Layoff)

Summary: If you are a UCSD employee who has been notified of layoff/ reduction in time (RIT) and are eligible for preferential rehire, follow the steps below to exercise referral privileges using your preferential rehire status.
What you, the applicant, should do How to do it
1 Determine if you are eligible for preferential rehire.
  1. After you have been notified of layoff, you may contact Human Resources (HR), (858) 534-6333, to find out which recruitment specialist to contact with questions.
  2. Review Layoff Preference and Recall.
  3. Contact Human Resources at (858) 534-6333 to make an appointment if you are interested in re-employment.
Meeting with Human Resources is an opportunity to ask questions about early referral, preference rights, future opportunities, and policy.

2 Create or update your online resume and submit it electronically.
  1. Go to JobLink.
  2. Click the Applicant Toolkit to create, update, or review your resume.
  3. Make sure your resume reflects all your experience, skills, and training:

    • Include specifics (e.g., software you have used).
