Configuring the UCSD VPN Client for Mac OS X 10.4.x and Above via Conventional Installation  
 
Summary: Download and configure the new UCSD Virtual Private Network (VPN) AnyConnect client on your Mac OS X 10.4.x and above machine for a conventional installation.

In the right place? If you only need to access common campus Web sites or remote desktop computing, use the VPN EasyConnect option. See instructions in Virtual Private Networks at UCSD.

Notes:

  • You must log into your computer with administrator rights.
  • You need your Active Directory (AD) username and password. If you don't remember your AD username or password, you can either reset it at https://adweb.ucsd.edu/adpass/ or contact your department's systems administrator.
What to do How to do it
1 Download the UCSD VPN AnyConnect client for Intel.
  1. If you have PowerPC, skip to Step 2.
  2. Download the VPN AnyConnect client for Intel.
  3. Save the client to your desktop.
  4. After the download completes, double-click the ucsdvpn.dmg installation file. The ucsdvpn icon shown below will appear on your desktop.
  5. Go to Step 3.

2 Download the UCSD VPN AnyConnect client for PowerPC.
  1. Download the VPN AnyConnect client for PowerPC.
  2. Save the client to your desktop.
  3. After the download completes, double-click the ucsdvpn_ppc.dmg installation file. The vpn icon shown below will appear on your desktop.

3 Run the installation package.
  1. Double-click the ucsdvpn icon.
  2. Double-click the vpn.pkg icon.

4 Begin the installation.
  1. Click Continue to begin the installation.
  2. When prompted, click Continue.

5 Accept the license agreement.
  1. Click Continue.
  2. When the Software License Agreement window appears, click Agree to accept.

6 Authorize the installation.
  1. Click Install.
  2. When prompted, enter your Administrative (system) username and password.
  3. Click OK.

7 Finish the installation.
  1. Click Finish.
  2. When you see the Install Succeeded pop-up window, click Close to continue.

8 Run the AnyConnect client.
  1. Go to the Cisco folder in Applications and double-click the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.

9 Connect to the UCSD VPN.
  1. Enter vpn.ucsd.edu in the Connect to field.
  2. Press the return key.

10 Authenticate.
  1. Select your desired connection profile from the Group drop-down menu:
    • split – Route only campus traffic through the UCSD VPN. All other traffic goes through your normal Internet provider.
    • allthruucsd – Route all traffic through the UCSD VPN.
  2. Enter your AD username and password.
  3. Click Connect.

11 Disconnect.
  1. Click the AnyConnect client icon located near the top right corner of your screen.
  2. Select Quit.
