Configuring the UCSD VPN Client for Mac OS X 10.4.x and Above via Web Interface  
 
Summary: Download and configure the UCSD Virtual Private Network (VPN) AnyConnect client on your Mac OS X 10.4.x and above machine via the new Web interface.

In the right place? If you only need to access common campus Web sites or remote desktop computing, use the VPN EasyConnect option. See instructions in Virtual Private Networks at UCSD.

Notes:

  • You must log into your computer with administrator rights.
  • You need your Active Directory (AD) username and password. If you don’t remember your AD username or password, you can either reset it at https://adweb.ucsd.edu/adpass/ or contact your department's systems administrator.
What to do How to do it
1 Install the UCSD VPN AnyConnect client.
  1. Go to the VPN Sign-On page, https://vpn.ucsd.edu.
  2. Enter your AD username and password.
  3. Select your desired connection profile from the Group drop-down menu:
    • split – Route only campus traffic through the UCSD VPN. All other traffic goes through your normal Internet provider.
    • allthruucsd – Route all traffic through the UCSD VPN.
  4. Click Sign On.

2 Begin the automatic installation.
  1. On the next screen, click Start AnyConnect to begin the installation.

3 Continue the installation.
  1. The VPN Client Downloader screen appears.
  2. If the automatic installation fails, see steps 6-10 to connect manually.

4 Finish the installation.
  1. After the installation completes and connects to the VPN, the Connection Established screen appears.
  2. You're now connected to the UCSD VPN using the Cisco AnyConnect client.

5 Disconnect from the UCSD VPN.
  1. To disconnect, either:

    • Right-click the VPN icon in the System tray, and select Disconnect.

    • Double-click the VPN icon, click the Connection tab, and then click Disconnect.

6 Install manually if the automatic installation doesn't work.
  1. To install manually, click the Mac OS X 10.4+ (power pc) link.

7 Save the vpnsetup.sh file to your desktop.
  1. Click Save File to save to your desktop.

8 Open a Terminal window.
  1. Open the Utilities folder in the Applications directory and double-click Terminal.

9 Run the manual installation script.
  1. Go to the directory where the installation script downloaded. In this case type cd Desktop and press return.
  2. Type sudo sh vpnsetup.sh and press return to execute the installation script.
  3. If prompted, enter your computer's administrator (system login) password.

10 Sign on again.
  1. Go to the VPN Sign-On page: https://vpn.ucsd.edu.
  2. Sign on with your AD username and password and select split or allthruucsd from the Group drop-down menu.
  3. Click Start AnyConnect.
  4. When the screen below appears, you've successfully connected to the UCSD VPN using the Cisco AnyConnect client. This may take several seconds.
  5. To disconnect, see step 5.
