How to Connect to the UCSD Network From Off Campus  
 
Summary: Find out how to set up a Web proxy server to access UCSD network resources from off campus. ACT provides several services to balance the needs for both high network security and customer convenience.

Notes:

  • This document outlines the steps to follow when you connect to UCSD services from off campus.
  • "Off campus" refers to students, faculty, and staff who use Internet service providers other than UCSD, such as America Online or Roadrunner.
What to do How to do it
1 Use the UCSD proxy server to access UCSD Web sites and library resources from off campus.
  1. Students, faculty and staff, set up your Web browser to access the UCSD proxy server.
  2. Each time you connect through the proxy server, enter your UCSD username and password.
2 Configure your e-mail program to send and receive messages from off-campus locations.
  1. See instructions for setting up many commonly used e-mail programs.
  2. Once your e-mail program is set up correctly, you may need to authorize yourself to send mail.
