How to Use Element K (Web-Based Training)  
 
Summary: Learn how to access Element K, Web-based training for current UCSD staff and faculty.

Element K offers hundreds of free online courses available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for Macs and PCs. The instructions below are for current staff and faculty. Currently enrolled UCSD students, log in via TritonLink.
What to do How to do it
1 Make sure you're eligible to use Element K.
  1. Only current UCSD faculty, staff, or students can use Element K. These instructions apply to UCSD staff and faculty.
  2. Alumni, applicants, and former employees are not eligible due to site licensing agreements.
2 Turn off all pop-up blockers.
  1. Courses appear in a pop-up window. Be sure to turn off all pop-up blockers, including those in your browser, browser toolbars (Yahoo, Google, etc.), and security software before launching a course.
  2. For information about how to turn off pop-up blockers, ask your local system administrator, or look in Help for your browser.
  3. If all else fails, to bypass pop-up blockers, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on a link or button.
3 Log in.
  1. Click a link to log into a particular section of Element K:
  2. If prompted, use your Single Sign-On username and password to log in. Contact the ACT Help Desk, (858) 534-3187, if you need help.
  3. Click the Catalog to see a list of courses.
  4. Click the Quick Reference Guide link in the right sidebar of the welcome page for further instructions.
4 Download any necessary software.
  1. After signing in, you may be prompted to install the latest version of Flash or Shockwave the first time you launch a course.
  2. If problems occur while installing or updating Flash or Shockwave, contact your local system administrator.
5 Get technical support, if needed.
  1. If you need help with your browser, pop-ups, or installing software, contact your local system administrator.
  2. If you need help with Single Sign-On, contact the ACT Help Desk, (858) 534-3187.
  3. If you have problems while using Element K, click Help in the top toolbar, then Support Options. Then click on 24-hour customer support chat to get help from live tech support.
