Hazardous material
The U.S. Department of Transportation and the International Air Transportation Association define hazardous material as substances capable of posing a risk to health, safety, or to property when transported.

"Hazardous material" also refers to any material that, because of its quantity, concentration, chemical, radioactive, or infectious characteristics, poses a significant present or potential hazard to human health and safety or to the environment if released into the workplace or the environment.
